Georgia Museum of Natural History

Icon Design • Poster Design

The Georgia Museum of Natural History collects and preserves evidence of the cultural and natural heritage of Georgia.

Most of the museum's collections consist of specimens on display to be studied by students and professionals. I selected three specimens that were the most representative of the museum and designed them into a unified set of icons. I then used these icons to design posters advertising the museum.

A preserved moon moth specimen.
A preserved buck.
A preserved brown duck on a shelf.
Pencil sketches of the moth.
Pencil sketches of the buck.
Pencil sketches of the duck.
A wall filled with variations of the sketches animals on tracing paper.
Larger, more refined versions of the icons that have been enlarged. There are three versions of each animal.

I further refined the icons to unify them as a family, giving them shared characteristics by adapting them to have similar angles and curves.

A before-and-after of the icons after refinement. The final three icons of the moth, deer, and duck.
A poster advertising the museum using the final duck icons.
A variation of the poster, but using the moth icons instead.
